Maurice Andre, who recently passed away aged 78, was the world's most renowned classical trumpet player. He raised the status of the trumpet as a solo instrument to a new level and inspired a whole generation of younger players.This extensive collection neatly brings together his many recordings for Philips and Deutsche Grammophon, as well as less commonly available recordings he made for Universal France. All the famous Trumpet Concertos by Haydn, Hummel, Vivaldi among others, are included and also key works of the Baroque era that feature the trumpet, such as Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 and Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke. Maurice Andr worked tirelessly to widen the repertoire of his instrument and this collection includes arrangements of concertos composed for other instruments and also of perennial favourites such as Albinoni's Adagio and Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.
